Jenkins Melvin Johnson

Jenkins Melvin Johnson, 70, of Selma, died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at a local hospital.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 15, at Pineview Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Johnson of Selma; three sons, James Franklin (Lissa) Johnson of Purvis, Miss., Kenneth Wayne (Sherry) Johnson and Michael (Cebrina) Johnson all of Selma; one daughter, Cathy Johnson (Paul) Portwood of Selma; one brother, Jack Johnson of California.

Active pallbearers are Frank Marsh, Matthew Davis, Phillip Smyly, Brian Johnson, Jack Smith and Roland Williams.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, at Selma Funeral Home.

Wilber Allen Reed

Wilber Allen Reed, 72, of Jones, died Monday, November 10, 2003, at his home.

Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 13, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Baptist Church Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his foster mother, Jessie Mae Apperson; wife, Helen Chandler Reed; son, Keith Allen (Nancy) Reed; daughters, Lesa Reed ( Ronnie) Quarles and Penny Reed (Gentry) Smith; grandchildren, Summer Smith, Laken Quarles, Lydia Quarles, Kaitlan Reed, Landon Reed, Reed Smith; sister in-law, Ouida Reed of Palm City, Fla., and Elsie Reed of Eckerty, Ind.

Active pallbearers were Micheal Bowden, Carl Beggs, Hearold Beggs, Allen Beggs, Bernie Groves and Allen Groves.

Honorary pallbearers were Jones Baptist Church men, Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and co-workers of Norfolk Southern Railroad. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Jones Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mr. Reed was a Deacon at Jones Baptist Church, and worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 37 years.

John Elijah Carswell

The Rev. John Elijah Carswell, 45, of Keystone Heights, Fla., formerly of Selma, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at a hospital in Senaca, S.C.

Services are Saturday, November 15, in Graham, Fla., with Archie Tanner Funeral Home of Florida directing.

Survivors include his father, Earl, and mother, Bessie; his children, Rachel, Anna Rose, Jacob, and Johnathan all of Keystone, Fla., and David of Walhalla, S.C.; brothers, Robert Earl &uot;A Bob&uot; and Bruce of Selma, Mike of Montgomery, Terry of Jacksonville, Fla., Tim of Archer, Fla., and James of Selma.; one sister, Earldeen of Walhalla, S.C.; and their children.

John Carswell was born Feb. 19, 1958, in Tallassee to the Rev. Earl and Bessie Lee Carswell. In 1961 the Carswells moved to Selma, where the Rev. Carswell pastors the Oasis Tabernacle Church on 3723 Water Ave.

John attended Francis Thomas and Southside High School. He was saved in a tent meeting on the Mason parking lot. After graduation he joined himself to the Rev. R. D. Wilson Evangelistic Association, where he worked for four years. He then married Bro. Wilson’s daughter and to this union six children were born, one preceding him in death

John lived in Keystone Heights, Fla., with his children and pastored in Graham, Fla., and continued evangelizing until his death.

He ministered in 40 or more states, from Florida to Alaska, and several foreign countries and hundreds of times in Old Mexico and Navaho Indian Reservations near Albuquerque, N.M., and Arizona. He also did various contract work, roofing, vinyl siding and carpentry, working in different towns where he preached. He worked with Wilson & Wilson for the last 15 years.

John was loved by all that met him. Everyone loved his singing, his piano and guitar playing and his preaching. He lived a good life and died at peace.

The family thanks everyone for their kindness and prayers.

Renardo Johnson

Renardo &uot;Lobo&uot; Johnson, 20, of Montgomery, died Saturday, November 8, 2003.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 15, at Bougahoma Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Moss officiating. Burial will follow in Big Union Christian Churchyard Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Peter Fulford

Peter Fulford, 79, of Selma, died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J. H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home.
