but no tricks

For parents who do not want to take their children around to knock on stranger’s doors for Halloween treats this year, there are several alternatives available.

For the past 19 years, the Pride of Alabama Elks Lodge #1170 has been hosting a Halloween treat party complete with sack races, contests for best looking bought and homemade costumes and, of course, plenty of candy.

The lodge started the party back during the early 80s, when there were reports of people putting razor blades in pieces of candy and doing other harmful tricks to children during Halloween, Stallings said.

The event has grown to the point that nearly 500 children have attended the event in years past, Stallings added.

The lodge is governed by Roosevelt Goseby, president and exhalted ruler. Lucy Cleveland is the daughter ruler.
