No sweat for Hornets

Dallas County vs Bibb County

Dallas County takes its undefeated record on the road this week to play Bibb County.

Dallas County has not really been tested this year, and this week should be no different. Bibb County lost last week to Thompson, and it wasn’t a close game. Bibb County lost by 45 points and was unable to

score.

The Hornets are averaging 53 points a game, and unless they are playing the “Tide” any time soon, I don’t think that is going to change. Dallas County is ranked No. 9 in the state in 4A football, and should be ranked higher. Maybe the Hornets will get the respect that they deserve in the upcoming weeks.

Look for the trio of running backs that the Hornets have to inflict more pain on yet another defense this week, as the Hornets roll over Bibb County.

Keith at Calera

Keith is coming off a huge loss last week to 4A Dallas County, and hopes to right a sinking ship this week against Calera. Calera is coming off a win against Thorsby, 25-7, and they won’t go down without a fight.

Going into last week’s game, Keith had some key players that were hobbled by injuries, and Keith not 100 percent ready for the cross- county game against Dallas County. This week Keith plays a team that won’t be easy, but with a little luck, maybe the end result will come out better for the Bears.

Look for Keith to try and get back to its bread-and-butter with the running game, and hopefully its defense will be able to pick up the rest of the slack. I still don’t know if it will be enough to keep them from going on a three-game losing skid.

Southside vs Tallassee

What can you say about Southside? They just haven’t been able to put it all together this year, but this week should be a little easier. This week Southside plays Tallassee in its homecoming game, and Southside should be able to match up better with this team than it has with any of the others this year.

Now let us not forget that they have played some very good teams this year. Stanhope Elmore is one of the best teams in the state, and should not be overlooked in any way. (I was running a fever when I picked Elmore to lose last week).

This week look for the Panthers to be stingy on defense, and they will try to get back to basics on offense. This should give them what they need to win their homecoming game against Tallassee. So I am going out on a limb one more time, and will take them to win. (sooner or later I will be right)

Meadowview Christian at Southern

The Trojans have not been able to put anything together yet this year. Last week they lost to Mobile Christian 49-7, and that is the way things have been going for them all year.

Southern broke up Wilcox Academy’s undefeated year two weeks ago, and they won’t let up this week against the Trojans.

Look for Meadowview to get back to the fundamentals this week, and to try to keep the ball on the ground, and its defense off the field as much as possible. Whether the Trojans can actually execute this will be another thing. The Trojans are well-coached, but inexperience is evident.

Morgan Academy vs Mobile Christian

Morgan picked up its fourth win of the year last week against Clarke Prep, and Morgan didn’t even have to do it in come-from-behind fashion. Mobile Christian absolutely destroyed the Meadowview Christian Trojans last week, defeating them 49-7.

Traditionally this has been a big region game for the Senators, and this game should be no different.

Morgan has a very strong option-based offense that is capable of putting up quite a few points. The key for Morgan is going to be how well can Mobile Christian stop the option. If Mobile Christian has trouble with the option, Morgan will have no real trouble, but if they manage to stop the running game, the Senators will have to go to the air. The undersized Mobile Christian defensive backs should make it easy for Travis Lyon to throw the ball effectively.

Look for Morgan to exploit Mobile Christian weakness, and pull out a relatively easy victory.

Central Christian at Edgewood

The Warriors will have their hands full as they go on the road this week to take on Edgewood. The one advantage that Central Christian has is that even if they lose it will not affect their region standings.

The Central Christian Warriors are undefeated, and would love to stay that way, but they take on a very good Edgewood team. This outing does have its positives, though. It will give Central a very good idea of how good its team really is.

If Central Christian can keep putting up good offensive numbers like they have in their first five games, they should be able to play with Edgewood. Their defensive play has also been outstanding, and it has helped them be able to put up some of the good offensive numbers. C.A. Poe had four interceptions in last weeks game against Coosa Valley, and any time you have that kind of take-away ability in a game it gives you a good edge.

Look for Central to spread the ball evenly between its talented backfield, and its receivers to try and pull out the victory against Edgewood.

Wilcox Academy vs Monroe

Wilcox Academy got back on the winning side of things last week against Patrician, pulling out the victory 13-12. This week things won’t be that easy for them. The Wildcats have the defending 3A state Champs coming to town, and they will be in for a true battle.

Wilcox Academy and Monroe are both supposed to be in rebuilding years but they don’t play like it. Monroe Academy is undefeated, and Wilcox has only one loss this season.

This game should be good from the opening kick off till the horn sounds at the end of the game. Wilcox Academy will try to run the ball on Monroe, and Monroe will try to do the same thing to Wilcox. The team that is able to establish the running game is the team that will go home at the end of the night with the victory.

This should be a close one, but Monroe should pull out the victory in the long run.

Lowndes Academy vs Patrician

The Lowndes Academy Rebels will take on Patrician this Friday night in Hayneville for their homecoming game. The Rebels had better watch out or this could be one very sad dance.

Patrician barely lost last week to Wilcox Academy, and it will be ready for the Rebels this week. Wilcox Academy defeated the Rebels early in the year by a very wide margin.

I hate to say it because I don’t want to see anyone lose their homecoming game, but this is one that Lowndes will probably lose.

Wilcox Central vs Carol

Wilcox Central had the luxury of being off last week due to a canceled game, and maybe they had the opportunity to get some extra practice in and rest some weary bones. Carol played last week, winning a close game against Daleville 22-20.

Look for Wilcox Central to have used the extra week off to put together a good game plan for Carol. They should come out, and play very hard for the entire game, and hopefully come out on top.

Wilcox Central 14 Carol 7

R.C. Hatch vs Highland Home

Hatch has not been able to get off the losing side of things yet this year, and this week against Highland Home should not be much different. Highland Home won its game last week against Brantley 14-7, and should have little trouble putting one more loss on Hatch’s never-ending list of defeats.

The only thing I can say good for Hatch is basketball season is right around the corner.

Marion Military Institute at Sparta

They must be dancing in the streets in Marion. With MMI getting its second win this year, there is plenty of reason for celebrating in Marion. Nobody should forget that up until this year, MMI had not seen the win column for a very long time.

This week MMI takes on Sparta and they are trying to take last week’s win, and turn it into a streak.

MMI has all the tools needed to win more games this year. They have depth, and experience for the first time in a long time, and you can tell it from the record they have put up this year.

Look for MMI to pound the ball straight ahead, and take advantage of the strength they have at running back.
