Minnie L. Thomas

Minnie L. &uot;Big Mama&uot; Thomas, 94, of Safford, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at her home.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, Sept. 14, at Christian Light Baptist Church, Alberta, with her grandson, the Rev. Legrand Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her five children, Lula B. Brown and Louise Smith of Safford, J.C. Thomas (Dorothy), Otis Thomas (Lola) and Annie P. Matthews (Lee Ernest) all of Oakland, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and 48 great-great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Sarah McElrath and a loving sister-in-law, Jennie B. Garner; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Thomas was born on Aug. 8, 1908 to the late Louise and Lewis Garner in Tuskegee. She was a member of Christian Light Baptist Church, with the Rev. N. Parker as her pastor.

Sallie L. Montgomery

Sallie L. Montgomery, 87, of Selma, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 at a local nursing home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John L. Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Percy Montgomery; brother-in-law, George Montgomery of Birmingham; one sister-in-law, Bissie Mae Montgomery of Selma; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walton and Rosie Hunter.

Active pallbearers are family and friends.

The body will lie in state at the church on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Montgomery was a lifelong member of Good Hope Baptist Church, until her death.

Edna Green

Edna Green, 74, of Selma, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 in Selma.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, Sept. 14, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. B.T. Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Walker Mortuary directing.

Survivors include one son, Phillip Green III; one brother, Eddie (Minnie) Patterson; four grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ida Mae Boggs Brewer

Ida Mae Boggs Brewer, 86, of Marion, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 at a Perry County Nursing Home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Marion Church of God with the Rev. Gervis Smith and the Rev. Odean Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Waycross Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Brewer, Lester Brewer and Lawrence Brewer all of Marion and Hugh Brewer of Sprott; two daughters, Florence B. Calhoun of Marion and Betty Chandler of Evergreen; two sisters, Jewel Tune of Tuscaloosa and Opal Montz of Marion; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are Tim Brewer, Steve Calhoun, Chris Brewer, Sam Brewer, Scott Brewer, John Brewer, Dan Brewer, Clayton Brewer, Keith Brewer and Reginald Enfinger.

Lawrence Lee Harris

Lawrence Lee Harris, 80, of Dallas County, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002 at his home.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at New Center Baptist Church with the Rev. T. Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife Emma Harris; four sons, Eddie Williams, Johnnie Harris, David Stevenson and Sam Harris; 12 daughters, Lillie Tolbert, Lucy Johnson, Beatrice Jackson, Mary McGee, Angela Harris, Lena Blake, Gladys Harris, Gloria Effinger, Linda Davis, Melissa Harris and Joyce Holman; brother, Norman Armstrong; 37 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven sons-in-law; three daughters-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews; and Daniel Jackson Sr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Calvin and Beatrice Harris, a brother, Willie Harris and a sister, Lillie G. Williams.

Active pallbearers are grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers are Masonic Lodge 3304 of Marion Jct.

Mr. Harris, retired after 27 years at Alamet (Globe), 14 years in the Dallas County School System, he was vice-president of Family Social Saving Club and he was a member

of Marion Junction Masonic Lodge #304.

Charles Timothy Brown

Charles Timothy Brown, 41, of Selma, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 at a local hospital.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral with Dr. Cecil Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his mother, Deloris Brown of Selma; his sister, Ann (Bruce) Adams of Selma.

Active pallbearers are Jeff Adams, John Perry, Ron Fulton, John Powell, James Jones and Dana Hollis.

Honorary pallbearers are John Presley, Dan Godwin, Buford Campbell and Loyd Campbell.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Mr. Brown, was one of the biggest supporter and volunteer of the Battle of Selma, since being created 26 years ago by the Kiwanis Club. Only a few know how much he contributed to this event. He lived it year round. He was a valued member of the A-Team, the group that worked 24-7 to pull off the Battle each year.

He loved Selma and its people, he kept up with politics ad issues and always had a strong vocal opinion. &uot;He was not big in stature, but he had one of the biggest hearts of any man I known, &uot; said W.P. &uot;Buddy&uot; Smith. The City of Selma, the Kiwanis Club and the Battle of Selma will miss him greatly. &uot;My life has certainly been enriched by my friend, a man call Charlie Brown.

Wally Lewis Cleveland

Wally Lewis Cleveland, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002 at his home.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Marietta AME Zion Church, Perry County. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his loving wife, Brenda Simpson Cleveland; a devoted mother, Annie M. Jones of Selma; devoted father, Sammie Nelson of Selma; loving sister and brother-in-law, Annie M. and Larry Davidson of Selma; devoted grandmother, Francis Nelson; two stepson, Anthony D. Simpson and Patrick Williams of Selma; one daughter, Keona V. Sturdivant of Selma; mother-in-law, Ola Mae Simpson (Rick) of Selma; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Simpson of Selma; two nieces, TyKeshia and Mykia Blackmon; three devoted aunts, Beatrice L. Cleveland, Lillie Mae Sanders and Gloria Nelson all of Selma; devoted cousins, Sandra Blackmon of Montgomery, Cynthia Melton of Selma; devoted uncle, Otis L. Cleveland; two devoted friends, Gus Moore and Daniel Helms of Selma; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends; and a dear friend, Rev. G.P. Kornergay.

Mr. Cleveland was born March, 18, 1973

to Annie Martha Cleveland and Sammy Nelson in Selma. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Marietta AME Zion Church of Perry County.

Tina Smith

Tina Smith, 37, of Perry County, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002 at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his mother, Annie Sims.

Ada McClenney

Ada McClenney, 68, of Marion died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 at a local hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at New Pernell Baptist Church, Marion Jct., with the Rev. Lugene Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Ruth L. Walker

Ruth L. Walker, 84, of Marion, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 at a rehab center in Marion.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery in Marion, with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Charlie Roscoe III

Charlie Roscoe III, 93, of Marion Jct., died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, Sept. 14, at Pine Grove C.P. Church with the Rev. Dozier officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
