Mary Cowans Towns

Mary Cowans Towns, 79, of Sardis, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at her home.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, July 19, at Good Hope Baptist Church, Sardis, with the Rev. John Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Samuel C. Towns; one stepson, George Ishman (Bertha) of Sardis; two daughters, Elaine Towns Alexander (Thomas) of Columbus, Ga., and Ethel Jean Towns Johnson (Jimmy) of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two brothers, Edward Cowans of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Milton Cowans of Paulding, Ohio; one sister, Ovetta Williams of Selma; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Robert E. Harrison Jr.

Robert E. Harrison Jr., 70, of Montgomery, died Monday, July 14, 2003, at his home.

Services are at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Chapel of Leak-Memory Chapel with the Rev. Spencer Turnipseed officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Leak-Memory Chapel directing.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn T. Harrison; stepson, Peyton A. Langford III, daughter-in-law, Irene W. Langford; two sisters, Patricia A. Willcutt of Huntsville and Glenda H. Roberts (Bobby) of Orrville; two granddaughters, Jessica Joy and Lindsey Irene Langford; and many nieces, nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Sr. and Daisy L. Harrison.

Active pallbearers are Robert Roberts, David Molina, David White, Robert Willcutt, Michael Willcutt and Justin Slatton.

Mr. Harrison, was a retired Chief Master Sergeant from Air National Guard at Dannelly Field after 37 years of service.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Hospice of Montgomery, 1111 Holloway Park, Montgomery, AL 36117 or Perry Hill United Methodist Church Men’s Club, 910 Perry Hill Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Hospice.

Carolyn Tubbs Hughes

Carolyn Tubbs Hughes, 70, of Marion, died Monday, July 14, 2003, in a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at Marion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Teasley officiating. Burial will follow in Heiberger Methodist Church Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes, Marion Chapel directing.

Survivors include her husband, John A. Hughes of Marion; two sons, Rickey (Carol) Hughes of Marion and William H. Hughes of Valley Grande; one daughter, Patricia (Ronald) Oglesby of Summerfield; one brother, W.C. Tubbs of Hueytown; three sisters, Elaine Kenny and Mary Dodson of Birmingham and Sara Tate of Tarpon Spring, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Marion United Methodist Church.

Goldie Mae Herd

Goldie Mae Herd, 100, of Selma, died Friday, July 11, 2003 at a local nursing home.

Services are at 12 noon, Thursday, July 17, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a grandadopted daughter, Goldie (Bobby) Page of Selma; daughter-in-law, Celestine Taylor Hurd of Montgomery; grandson, Samuel (Denise Chestnut) Hurd of Montgomery; great-grandchildren, John Browning of Selma, Carlos Browning of Birmingham, Sirita (Chris) Day and Amesia Page-Herd all of Springfield, Mass., Kejo Renee Hurd, Samuel J. Hurd IV, Selena Joy Hurd, Shamayne J. Hurd, Ezekiel Jamal Chestnut Hurd and Helena Chestnut all of Montgomery; great-great-grandchildren, Keristen DeVonye Herd and Keylon Martez Day of Springfield, Mass., Reonesha Ariel Browning and Shakeria Narshai Browning of Birmingham; two grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Minnie Robinson, 96, of Selma, died Monday, July 14, 2003 at a local hospital.
