The 13-year-old Selma all-star baseball team has won its sub-district tournament and will play Demopolis on Thursday to advance to the state tournament.

Selma advanced to the district round by defeated Clanton 6-4.

“Pitching and defense saved us in that game,” said coach Larry Anthony.

Andrew Harrison started the game for Selma and went two strong innings. Murry “Rocker” Keasler came on to pitch the final five innings. Harrison and Keasler combined for a 2-hit, 9-strikeout performance.

But Selma’s pitching performance wasn’t the only strong showing. Clanton’s pitcher combined to give up just four hits to Selma. A bundle of errors and walks allowed Selma’s four hits to be enough, though.

Shane Moreland had two hits for Selma, while Keasler and Malcolm Howard both reached base on singles.

Selma picked up six runs in the first two innings and went on to hold Clanton the rest of the way.

Selma will play Demopolis at 5 p.m. at the baseball complex on Thursday. That game will be the first of a best-of-three series. The winner of that series goes on to Muscle Shoals for the state tournament.
