William Orin Brooks

Col.. (ret.) William Orin Brooks of Pensacola, Fla., died Friday, June 20, 2003.

Services were at 12:15 p.m. Monday, June 23, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, Pensacola, Fla., with the Rev. Ron Lentine officiating. Burial followed in Barrancas National Cemetery with Faith Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife of 52

years, Jean Edwina Ward Brooks; children, William Frans Brooks II and wife Kathy Seele Brooks of Ozark, Russell Orin Brooks and wife Pam Green Brooks of Pensacola and Jerri Brooks Egstad and husband Scott Alvin Egstad of Pensacola; grandchildren, Chris Brooks, Beau Brooks, Brett Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Garrison Brooks, Jessica Egstad, David Egstad and Elizabeth Egstad; sisters, Oleita (Robert) Cook and Doris (Robert) Ward; brother, Oscar (Cubideen) Brooks.

Active pallbearers will he his grandsons.

Mr. Brooks, was the son of the late William Frans Brooks and Mary Alta Brooks.

He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1949. He entered the US Air Force as a Private, proudly serving his country for 29 year; and retiring as a Colonel. During his distinguished career, he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Mr. Brooks loved writing. He authored and published the book &uot;Econfina&uot;. He also loved fishing, but most of all he loved his family. He took great joy in being a part of his grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments. He always thought of others first. A strong Christian … A good man who loved his country.

Corine Hunter Wellington

Corine Hunter Wellington, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at New Shiloh Baptist Church, 5990 Co. Rd. 30, Sardis, with the Rev. Isiah Haile officiating and Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her beloved children George Hunter (Phyllis) of Fairbanks Alas., AC, Hunter (Ethel) Selma, Maryanne (Jonathan) Smith of Chicago Ill., David Hunter (Sharon) of Selma and Earnest Wellington of Sweetport, La.; sisters Anna (Albert) Landers of Sardis, Willie Lee Hunter and Mary Wagner of Florida; 13 grandchildren seven great-grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by five brothers one sister, Minnie Rivers, Sam Hunter, William Hunter, Palmer man Hunter, Tommie Hunter and Garland Hunter.

Mrs. Wellington, was the daughter of the late Horace and Minnie Hunter. She was born on April 11, 1929 in Sardis.

In October of 1963, she was conjoined in marriage to Emmett Wellington, who preceded her in death. This marriage was blessed with five children.

She was a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Bessie Lee Montz

Bessie Lee Montz, 83, of Moundville, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the Chapel of Kirk Funeral Home with the Rev. Shannon Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Havana United Methodist Church Cemetery, Greensboro, with Kirk Funeral Homes of Greensboro directing.

Survivors include one son, Grady Lester Montz Jr. of Marion; one daughter, Betty Jean Votes of Tuscaloosa; and three grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are Bobby Wyatt, Frank Lavender, Wayne Adams, Billy Hoggle, Terry Tubbs and Johnny Johnson.

Family visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Havana United Methodist Church.
