Safe Harbor Women’s Medical Clinic has recently moved to a new location, where it plans to continue offering services to pregnant women.

The clinic has been at the new location of 408 Dallas Ave. for a few months after years at 218 Union Street.

Executive Director Jennifer Dobbs has been with the clinic since it first opened in the year of 2000.

“It’s a lot bigger and nicer. We were grateful for the other facility that we had and it worked well, but it was really small,” Dobbs said. “There wasn’t a lot of privacy, and we only had one counseling room.”

There are about 150 visitors each week to Safe Harbor.

“We just outgrew the facility. We couldn’t do our services anymore. So, we were happy when this one was donated to us,” Dobbs said.

The clinic is a nonprofit organization and receives no government funding. Although the building was given from prior occupant Dr. Bracey Cross, DMD, the renovation project came out to total $40,000.

“We had a lot of businesses and individuals that came and stripped the wallpaper. A carpet company also donated. It was really neat to watch everybody come together to make this happen,” Dobbs said.

The clinic has a number of services that are offered to pregnant women. Free pregnancy testing with proof of pregnancy, ultrasounds and counseling are a few accommodations that visitors can look forward to.

Parenting and nutrition classes are also available.

They provide a point system where visitors can receive credit for each class they attend. At the end of the six-week period, they can trade in their points for items out of the “Little Blessings Suite” — a room full of baby clothes, bottles and other necessities.

Nurse Manager and Ultrasound Technician Laura Stover is elated about the new facility and how patients get to benefit more due to bigger space.

“It’s extremely different, we have more counseling rooms and more space. We have changed from a pregnancy resource center to a medical center. It looks more like a medical facility and we are able to offer more to our clients,” Stover said.

The clinic is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call (334) 875-8900.
