The Selma Board of Realtors introduced its four incoming officers at its Christmas Banquet on Thursday night at Sturdivant Hall.

Joyce Harris of Covenant Realty was installed as president, Jewell Williamson as vice president, Lynetta Hicks as secretary and Bailey Dawson as treasurer. Slade McElroy, a regional officer for the state of Alabama, performed the installation.

“Every year in December we have a banquet and reception honoring our officers and to get together and to kind of celebrate the season and to be thankful for the productive year we have had in real estate,” said Andrea Cross, who served as chairman of banquet and installation.

Outgoing members of the board were also honored for their service over the last year.

Outgoing president Kelly Sue Giampietro, secretary Shirley Dawson and treasurer Helene Felton were given plaques recognizing their work for the board in 2015. Harris was also awarded a plaque for her time as vice president. She’s already looking ahead toward what the board can do in 2016.

“A lot of people are just now getting an opportunity to buy a house and may not know how to do that, so I want to make sure if you are a first time home buyer or if you are a seasoned buyer, we want to make sure you are represented well,” Harris said.

The board meets monthly to talk about the real estate industry on a nationwide and local scale.

Around 10 local agencies are represented by the Selma Board of Realtors, Cross said.

“We discuss different aspects of the real estate industry and what’s happening out there, so that we can better inform our citizens and our buyers and our sellers about what’s happening in the real estate industry and how they can adapt and how we can help them better,” Cross said.
