The Selma Quarterback Club welcomed guest speaker Jim Donnan at the Selma Convention Center Monday.

Donnan is a former head football coach at the University of Georgia and Marshall. He was also an offensive coordinator for Oklahoma from 1985 to 1989, coaching under Barry Switzer and winning a national championship.

Donnan led off the evening by telling jokes based off stories from his coaching days. He kept the crowd engaged by sharing his opinion on everything from Deflategate to his College Football Playoff predictions.

Of course, Donnan also gave his thoughts on the season outlook for both Alabama and Auburn. Donnan first spoke about Auburn and how far he thinks the Tigers can go this season after a narrow victory against FCS Jacksonville State Saturday.

“I think they’re going to be a team to reckon with in the conference, but whether they’ll be as good as everybody wants them to be this year, I just don’t know,” Donnan said.

Donnan also spoke highly of Alabama, and he said that running back Derrick Henry and the Crimson Tide’s defense could take Alabama far this season.

“If they’ll run the ball and let that quarterback just throw it occasionally, I think they’ve got a chance to really be up there,” Donnan said.

The Selma Quarterback Club’s next meeting will be Sept. 28 when the guest speaker will be Jackie Burnett. For more information on the quarterback club, call captain Ray Hogg at 875-1960 or W. Forrest Hatfield at 872-4042
