This weekend’s Jazz on the Grazz event will likely feature saxophones, clarinets and other blues type instruments as artists play catchy tunes all over Selma. The event is free and gives those from the Queen City of the Blackbelt a chance to get out of the house and enjoy what’s expected to be a warm summer afternoon.

A recycling contest held during the event will allow those six-and-older to participate for a grand prize of $100 as well as numerous other prizes. The contest encourages participants to create projects from recycled materials like glass, cans, bottles, old clothes and other objects.

Councilwoman Angela Benjamin, who is helping organize the event, said during last year’s contest one of the best creations was a dollhouse made out of recycled materials.

The contest is a great way to get people thinking creatively. Plus, it gives citizens the opportunity to turn old and worn out objects into something that can be used in everyday life. The possibilities are truly endless.

The event will be held at Phoenix Park from noon until 10 p.m. Saturday evening.
