The Selma-Dallas County Public Library will be taking advantage of the nice warm weather and sunshine Thursday when it transforms into an outdoor café.

The annual Spring Courtyard Cafe is set to be a good one with lunch provided by Joyce’s Catering, centerpieces by Pringles Petals and featured guest Becky Blaylock, a local potter.

“Everybody knows Joyce,” said Jan Parker, a librarian and coordinator of the event.

“Joyce is a caterer here that has always provided lunch for us for Lunch at the Library. Whatever you need her for, she’s there. You can’t go wrong when you use Joyce.”

The café is meant to show off Selma while bringing the community together.

“We promote downtown Selma … and we try to promote businesses that are just getting started,” Parker said.

“Women enjoy a lunch experience and especially a courtyard café experience and just being outside with the pretty weather and our beautiful courtyard. It’s just a really special time to celebrate Selma.”

Pringles Petals is a new shop in town that will also be featured at the lunch.

“They’re going to be bringing some of the centerpieces as well as bringing some of their gift items that will be for sale,” Parker said.

Parker said she always looks forward to the café and she is getting excited.

“Courtyard café is my favorite event of the whole year,” Parker said. “Because it represents spring and … everybody’s happy, everybody’s in a joyful time of year because you’re celebrating the beginning of a season,” Parker said. “It’s just fun to come together in our beautiful courtyard.”

Parker said she is excited to have Blaylock there to show off her pottery and give guests an up-close look at how she makes her craft.

“She’s just very good, very easy to work with and she does a lot of Selma pottery,” Parker said. “I think it’s important [that she involves Selma into her work] because we’ve just made history here. We have so many visitors coming into Selma all the time, and I think it’s great that they can go pick up something from Selma, and something that they can really use.”

The café is scheduled for Thursday, May 6, and is expected to start at 12 p.m. and last until 1 p.m. Parker said the library has less than 15 tickets left. The event had sold out every year, and they are expecting a sellout this time as well.

Tickets are $8 and must be purchased in advance from the library. To reserve a seat at the café or for any questions, call the library at 874-1725.
