Former Selma High star to play overseas

Former Selma High School girls’ basketball star Ashley Grimes will play professional basketball in Australia.

Grimes left Friday morning for Adelaide, South Australia where she will play for the Central District Lions in a summer league that will run through August.

Grimes, a Selma native, went to Selma High School before signing with Auburn Montgomery. She was redshirted with the Warhawks and eventually transferred to Wallace Community College Selma, where she was named all-conference in 2010-2011.

Following two years with the Patriots, Grimes went to UAB where she starred. She averaged 14.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for the Blazers as a senior during the 2013-2014 season.
