Those that love to bargain hunt are in luck this weekend as the fourth annual Our Lady Queen of Peace Yard Sale makes its return.

The cash-only sale will be Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Our Lady Queen of Peace School located at 2511 Summerfield Rd.

The sale is running in conjunction with the historic U.S. 80 Hi-Way Sale, and Andrea Cross, publicity chairman for the Catholic Women’s Society, said she hopes that will draw even more people to the sale.

“It gives the community a chance to gather items and things that they want for just such nominal prices,” Cross said. “So, it’s kind of like we help one another. We do it for the community and then the proceeds go back to the community.”

The sale is a community event from start to finish.

“People in the community donate so that we can sell and give the proceeds back to charitable [organizations],” Cross said. “It’s a fun thing, and you get a lot of good out of it.”

The Women’s Society uses the proceeds to maintain the church, but they also donate to local non-profits to help give back to those that need it the most.

The society supports organizations like Sav-A-Life, Center of Hope, Relay For Life and more with the funds from the yard sale.

“We wouldn’t have the funds available to do these projects if we didn’t have a successful yard sale,” Cross said. “We’re not out here charging [a lot], we’re just making it where the general public can come.”

Cross said they raised around $1,500 last year, and they are looking forward to another great sale.

“There’s still people talking about the great buys that they got [last year],” Cross said. “We just want for it to be successful and for everybody to come.”

The staff agreed that the event is a lot of work, but it’s always worth it to give back. There’s something for everyone at the sale at great prices, according to Cross. The sale includes artificial flowers, linens, electronics, furniture, children’s toys, Christmas decorations, glass products and a lot more.

“Come, get what you can at wonderful prices and we’re going to use money back to the community,” Cross said.
