YMCA, Leaders Club to give away dresses to local girls in April

Thanks to the YMCA of Selma-Dallas County and its Leaders Club, many local girls will get a chance to pick out the perfect dress to attend their prom.

The YMCA is hosting a Prom Dress Drive during which girls can donate dresses until April 1. We encourage anyone with a dress they never wear in their closet to consider donating it, so that it can be worn by a girl in need of a prom dress this year.

Then, on Friday, April 3 from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, April 4 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. girls are invited to try on the dresses and pick out the one they’d like to wear to prom. Organizers would like each girl to bring a parent with them and a form of identification, but the dress is free. All girls have to do is show up and pick one out.

The program, which was established by Leaders Club advisor Ashlyn Goodwin, fills a need in our community. It’s a sad reality that many girls in our area may not be able to attend prom without a little assistance this year, but because of this program this help is coming.  For more information, contact the YMCA at 974-9622.
