Selma rode the Jamya Smith’s hot hand to the class 6A, area 6 championship game Wednesday.

Smith hit five three-pointers as part of a 17 point night to lead the Lady Saints to a 64-30 win over Chilton County.

“We didn’t turn it over but 11 times and shot 84 percent from the free throw line,” Selma coach Anthony Harris said. “… That’s what we want to do is cut down on the turnover ratio we have.”

Selma turned Chilton County turnovers into easy mistakes the entire game. The Lady Saints led 23-11 after one quarter, with Smith leading the way with 11 points.

Selma had a commanding 37-17 advantage at the half and led 57-24 after three quarters.

Kierra Armstead scored 12 points and Jacquetta Dailey added six more.

Areyana Williams scored six points for the Saints before leaving with what appeared to be a hip or leg injury.

The Saints will take on Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa in Friday’s championship. The Patriots defeated Paul Bryant 57-47 in Wednesday’s first semifinal.

Harris said he’s expecting a close game with Hillcrest Friday, and he plans on expressing the importance of the game to his team.

Win or lose, Selma will advance to the sub-regional round of the AHSAA playoffs, but a victory means they’ll host a sub-regional instead of being on the road.

“We’ve got two more shots at it regardless,” Harris said.

“We are going to throw everything at them. We want to stay home next Monday and not have to travel.”
