Residents should congratulate local inductee when given opportunity

Selma’s “unofficial historian” Dr. Alston Fitts III may not feel worthy enough to earn a spot into the Black Belt Hall of Fame, but we know he’s done more than enough to deserve the honor.

The hall of fame recognizes those from the Black Belt who have had a positive impact on the region, state, nation and world through contributions in art, business, education, industry, medicine, politics and science.

And Fitts has worked to archive the city’s long history and speaks highly and knowledgeably of Selma and he contributes to the world.

Congratulations, Fitts and thank you for all you’ve done to help make the Black Belt area better.

The local inductee will be honored with the other greats Friday, Jan. 30 at the University of West Alabama’s Bell Conference Center. The ceremony begins at noon.
