Warren C. Ledford

Warren C. Ledford passed away July 1, 2014 at the age of 97. He was born January 30, 1917 to the late Dobb and Georgiana Ledford.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Bobby Ledford and sisters, Eula Ledford, Mozelle Bozeman, and Mary Frances Vaughn.

Mr. Ledford is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Velma S. Ledford; sons, Michael (Pat) Ledford and Tommy Ledford; daughters, Debbie (Art) Thomas and grandchildren, Justin Ledford, Trey (Brittney) Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Brooke Thomas, Richard Ledford, LeighAnn Ledford, Crystal Helms and Josh Helms.

Warren dedicated his life to protecting the community by building a career in law enforcement with over 25 years of service. He began his career as a police officer in Montgomery and then moved to Selma, where he continued his career. He retired in 1981 from the Selma Police Department with more than 20 years of service. He also worked as a security officer at Selma Medical Center, as well as Vaughn Regional Medical Center. After his retirement, he began working as a security officer at American Candy Company. He was known and loved by all he came in contact with. He lived a humble life – one full of great memories. He was very loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, July 3, 2014 beginning at 6:00 p.m. and concluding at 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, July 4, 2014 at 10:00 at the funeral home with Doug Coats officiating. The family will also receive friends thirty minutes prior to the funeral service.

The family would like to thank Vaughn Regional Medical Center and the staff and nurses of the 3rd floor for their remarkable job during this difficult time. A special thanks also, to Dr. Park Chittom II for his dedication. Everyone who came to know him was touched in a special way. May God Bless!
