The Dallas County Commission unanimously approved six off days for its 220 employees during the holiday season during its meeting Monday.

County employees will have Dec. 25, 26 and 27 off during the week of Christmas and Jan 1, 2 and 3 off during the following week, which includes New Years Day.

“It’s absolutely worth it and our employees deserve it,” Dallas County Probate Judge Kim Ballard said.

Though the commission approved the off-days, Ballard said it doesn’t mean all employees will be able to relax. He said some members of law enforcement, such as the sheriff’s department would still be on duty during the holidays.

Ballard also reminded county employees they should have received a holiday bonus in their last paycheck.

Full-time employees should have received $600 before taxes and part-time employees should have received $200 before taxes.

Ballard previously said the bonus is equivalent to a 2 to 3 percent raise.
