Contest begins with the start of bow season

Tuesday marked the opening of bow deer hunting season in Alabama and the Black Belt Adventure Association’s annual Big Buck photo contest.

The contest is open to any hunter who bagged his or her trophy deer in any of the 23 counties that comprise the Black Belt. The winner will receive a $100 gift card to Bass Pro Shops.

Awards will be given in three age categories — 12 and under, 18 and under and adults older than 18. The number of likes each photo receives after it’s posted on the Alabama Black Belt Adventures Association’s Facebook Page will determine winners.

The contest isn’t limited to bow hunters. Entries from bow and gun hunters will be accepted, according to a news release.

After deer season ends on Jan. 31, hunters will have until Feb. 14 to submit photos of his or her trophy deer. All entries must be from the current hunting season, according to the news release.

Photos must includes the hunter’s name and the county in which the deer was taken, according to the news release.
