Residents prepare for a week of inspiring events

In less than one week, Water Avenue will be flooded with visitors from across the nation who all traveled to Selma for one common reason — to celebrate making a difference.

The Annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee will begin Thursday and we encourage all Selma and Dallas County residents to prepare themselves for a week of inspiring workshops and heavy reminders of our past.

Jubilee serves as a time to celebrate and reflect on how far we have come as a nation and how much further we need to go to achieve equality. There are still issues worth fighting for and we hope Jubilee touches on those issues specifically.

Several exciting activities will be going on during the week of Jubilee. From concerts and parades to inspiring seminars, we encourage everyone to take part in this special week and remember what our hometown heroes did decades ago to achieve freedom and justice.

We also encourage Dallas County residents to be hospitable hosts to all the visitors who will soon flood our city. Tourism has been hailed time after time to be one of our greatest assets and industries, and we want to encourage these visitors to come back to Selma to see what else we have to offer.
