The popular 1980s television show “Reading Rainbow” encouraged children to “open a book and open up their mind” and Monday, one local organization wants to keep that slogan going.

In honor of Black History Month and President’s Day, the Zeta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., will hold its annual RIF, or Reading is Fun Day, for preschool through high school students Monday beginning 10 a.m. inside the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center.

The event will showcase children’s book characters such as Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George, the Black Frog, puppets, hundreds of books and more.
