While strong pitching helped them hang around, the Wallace Community College-Selma Patriots couldn’t produce any runs, as they fell 3-0 to the Meridian Community College Eagles Wednesday at Bloch Park in the first game of a doubleheader.

Frank Elliott, head coach of the Patriots (0-2), said his team knew they were playing a tough opponent going in, and he hopes it prepares them in the long run.

“That’s a heck of team — one of the toughest in Mississippi — and we know that,” Elliott said.
