New bar part of downtown puzzle

Selma mayor George Evans said the addition of the Downtown Sports Bar is just another example of exciting things coming to downtown Selma.

“This is just another step in putting that big puzzle together,” he said. “We hope one day this will help one day give us that flavor we are looking for to get that New Orleans look. We are also trying to do some of the things San Antonio has done with their riverfront.”

Evan said more and more people are eyeing downtown buildings and bringing exciting things to Selma.

“This is another example of citizens wanting to locate here,” he said.

“This is exciting to me to see this happening in these tough times. Our city is still prosperous.”

Once the park and amphitheater are complete along the riverfront, Evans said the downtown area will have even more to offer.

For now, he said the addition of a sports bar for people to gather and watch games is step in the right direction.

“The things that are happening downtown are something to be proud of,” he said.

“We are grateful to the citizens of Selma for buying into making our city a place to visit and a destination point. I’m thrilled to death with what is happening in our town.”

If security and the pat down I received Friday night when we went in is ANY indication of the type of clientele this new venture expects to attract, then this new Bar is more like the second coming of 12 stone than an exciting addition to downtown..

We arrived later in the evening, there were maybe 10 people total there when we got arrived, including 2 security, 2 bartenders and the owners… Upon entering all of the males in our group were treated to a pat down that was borderline sexual assault.

I have been to bars, dance clubs, and the likes all over and have NEVER been subject to something like that. If that is the crowd you are planning on getting then you can count me and my crew OUT..
