SELMA –For the first time in school history, the Southside Panthers will enter the postseason undefeated after clinching a perfect 10-0 regular season on Thursday night, Oct. 30.

The Panthers, who are now the No. 3 team in the 3A classification, took down Bullock County with another dominant performance, posting 70-plus points for the second game in a row and the third time this season.

Southside scored 54 first-half points, taking a 54-20 lead into the locker room and never looked back from there, scoring 22 more in the second half for a 76-38 victory.

Entering the game, Bullock County, a Class 4A team, had allowed just 21.9 points per game and had given up no more than 33 in any game this season.

It didn’t take long for the Panthers, however, to find success offensively.

They scored two quick touchdowns in the opening quarter for a 16-0 lead out of the gate, but that was just the beginning of the 54-point first half.

Southside went on to add two more touchdowns in the quarter, nearing the season-high given up by the Hornets in the first 12 minutes of action and giving the team a 30-14 advantage.

And it didn’t take long into the second quarter for Southside to hand Bullock a new season high for points given up, pouring on 24 more points and taking a close 16-point game going into the second quarter and turning it into a comfortable 34-point lead at the break.

From there, it was business as usual for the Panthers, who outscored the Hornets 26-18 in the second half to pull away for the 38-point victory.

Offensively, the Panthers have now scored 60-plus in four straight and six games this season.

As a team, they have scored 576 points this season and now head into the playoffs with the best offense in the state and the possibility of breaking the single-season record for most points scored, which stands at 784.

More importantly, they’ll enter the postseason as the third-ranked team in Class 3A, hoping to go on a redemption path to a state championship appearance after falling to Houston Academy 48-28 in the semifinals.

The Panthers will open the postseason with a home matchup against on Friday, Nov. 7.
