SELMA — The Selma Public Library is encouraging students to sign up for library cards as part of its annual Library Card Campaign. The campaign highlights the importance of access to educational resources, digital tools and community programs offered through the library.
The campaign provides an opportunity for students to obtain a library card, which grants access to books, e-books, audiobooks, online research tools and other resources.
Library officials emphasize that a library card is more than just a key to borrowing books. “We want to provide kids access to the library to be able to spark a love for reading,” Director of the library Becky Nichols said.
During the campaign, the library hosted activities and promotions designed to encourage participation, including story-time events, school visits and activities that students were invited to.
Students can sign up for a library card in person at the Selma Public Library or online through the library’s website. A guardian must be present to be able to obtain a card for their children. Existing cardholders are encouraged to update their information to maintain uninterrupted access to library resources.
The library card campaign also serves as a reminder of the broader role libraries play in promotion literacy and lifelong learning. “It’s about kids being together,” Nichols said. “It’s about parents and caregivers having time to connect.”
In addition to traditional lending service, the Selma Public Library provides programs that support students, parents and adult learners alike. From virtual tutoring and reading programs to digital literacy workshops, a library card opens doors to tool and opportunities that may otherwise be inaccessible.
Library staff encourages parents to bring their children to sign up for library cards and explore the library’s youth programs.
The Selma Public Library invited all residents to participate in the campaign and take advantage of the resources available to them. With a library card, community members can explore new ideas, expand their knowledge and engage with a hub of learning and creativity right in their neighborhood.
