THOMASVILLE – The Southside Selma Panthers are heading to volleyball regionals in Class 3A after taking down Wilcox Central in the opening round of the Class3A, Area 4 tournament on Thursday, Oct. 16.
The Panthers ultimately advanced to the area tournament title match where they squared off against top-seed Thomasville, hoping to pull off an upset and keep gain even more confidence heading to the super regional tournament.
Thomasville, however, had been the leading team in the Class 3A, Area 4 throughout the season, and that proved to be the case once again in the area tournament with a straight-set victory.
Thomasville controlled the match throughout, but the first set at least saw a tight battle in the early portion.
The Tigers, however, ultimately pulled away for an easy 25-10 victory to take a 1-0 advantage.
That became the closest set of the match, as Thomasville coasted to set victories of 25-4 and 25-5 after that to complete the 3-0 straight-set victory and claim the area championship.
Despite that area title loss, the Panthers advanced to regionals thanks to finishing as one of the top two teams in the area tournament.
