THORSBY – In a three-team area, the Dallas County Hornets took on Thorsby at Alabama Christian Academy on Thursday, Oct. 16, hoping to earn a spot in this year’s regional tournament.

Thorsby, however, had the upper hand in the regular season with straight-set victories, and that same advantage carried into the postseason, as the Rebels picked up a 3-0 straight-set win to end the Hornets’ season.

Still, Dallas County fought until the end in a tough battle.

In the opening set, the Hornets jumped out to an early 4-3 lead, but Thorsby responded with several good service games in a row, eventually putting together a 17-2 run to take a 20-6 lead.

With the momentum, the Rebels prevented Dallas County from reaching double figures in the set, eventually pulling away for a 25-9 victory in the opening frame.

Knowing that they had an early hole to dig out of, the Hornets came out motivated in the second set and reeled off the first four points to take another early lead.

They led all the way up to 6-3 before Thorsby was able to put together a 4-0 run to take a 7-6 advantage.

The next several points went back-and-forth, trading ties and the lead a few times.

The Rebels, however, put together another difference-making run to open up an eight-point advantage at 17-9.

From there, the battle back become too much, as Thorsby closed out a 25-15 set victory for a 2-0 advantage in the match.

In the third set, Dallas County had another decent start, but the Rebels also got off to their strongest start of the night, leading to an early lead.

With the momentum full on their side, Thorsby was able to pull away for a comfortable 25-11 victory in the final set to complete the 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-11) sweep.
