SELMA – The BBQ on the Green at Sturdivant Hall Museum drew a lively crowd on Thursday night, Oct. 9 2025. The historic Greek Revival mansion hosted its annual fundraiser under the stars. The event offered a combination of Southern cuisine, live music and a silent art auction, all in support of the museum’s preservation and educational programs.

Eventgoers were able to feast on Southern-style meal prepared by local favorite Lannie’s BBQ Spot. For convenience, the museum also offered a drive-thru pickup option, allowing community members to participate even if they could not dine on the lawn.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, live music was performed by local musician Ed Williams, whose mix of blues and jazz set a cheerful tone for the evening.

The event also saw a silent auction, which showcased works by regional and local artists, including Jennifer Levins, Nan Cunningham, Barbara Davis and Charlie Lucas. Bidding continued through the dinner service. Proceeds from the auction, along with ticket sales, help fund the museum’s ongoing programming, restoration projects and public outreach efforts.

Tickets were priced at $30 per person, which included the meal and access to the silent auction. They were available at Sturdivant Hall, Carter Drug Co., the Selma-Dallas County Public Library, and the local Chamber of Commerce. Reserved corporate tables were also offered for businesses seeking to provide additional support. Event organizers said the variety of ticket options ensures that the event remains accessible to all members of the community.

This year’s BBQ on the Green marked another successful chapter in Sturdivant Hall’s long-standing tradition of community engagement and fundraising. In past years, the event has drawn hundreds of attendees, and organizers anticipated similar turnout this year. “Events like this are vital not only for raising funds but also for bringing the community together to celebrate Selma’s rich heritage,” said museum director Sandra McClendon.

Attendees appreciated the chance to enjoy a warm evening in a historic setting while supporting a local institution. Families spread blankets on the lawn, friends gathered near the stage to enjoy the music, and art enthusiasts perused the auction offerings. For many, the event is both a social highlight of the season and a reminder of the importance of preserving Selma’s history for future generations.
