MILLBROOK – The 17 Springs stadium lit up last Sunday at the 2025 College Culture Fair and Battle of the Bands, an event to promote college and career recruitment and showcase several high school and college bands.
“We want to broaden our footprint, letting the people know that Wallace Selma is a major factor in the educational landscape of the Selma community,” Joffrey Moore Director of Recruitment for Wallace State said.
Several colleges including schools like Alabama State University and Trenholm State Community College came to the event promoting and recruiting students and candidates to join their programs.
At the event local Selma native Helene Felton promoted her business Town & Country Real-Estate. “I am holding a booth to help people who are interested in Real-Estate gain information about the business,” Felton said. “I also want people to know that I’m not just limited to Selma and Dallas County.”
Felton along with Clay Seafood, JCS Staffing and Home $avings Nation met with people throughout the day to share what their organizations do and what services they offer.
17 Spring also saw several bands joining in the festivities by performing and competing to bring entertainment and enjoyment to eventgoers, while also bringing recognition to their programs. Among the bands present, we saw two local Selma bands, Selma High School and Southside-Selma High School who performed at the event along with JAG, Huffman High and Miles College. Bruce Taylor an organizer for the event said “All the bands did a fantastic job entertaining the crowd. People want to see them again.”
Eventgoers made amazing connections and contacts with future career opportunities and received a better understanding about different local colleges in the area.
“I enjoyed being here today,” Michelle Inglin, local Millbrook resident said. “I made contacts and scheduled an interview because of this event.”
This was the second year that the fair was put on and it turned out to be a very successful day for both eventgoers, organizational booths and the bands who performed.
Event organizers Fostering Excellence Productions will host another event on Jan. 18 with the MLK step show and Stroll-off.
