SELMA – Selma will turn shades of pink this month as the third annual Sprinkle Me Pink Walk returns on Sunday, Oct. 19, offering a vibrant show of support for breast cancer awareness and local patients fighting the disease.
BUILD Community Development Corporation will host the event and the walk will be at Bloch Park, with a starting time of 3 p.m. Eventgoers will be able to donate at the event to help residents in Dallas County and surrounding areas access critical cancer-related resources.
”We aim for people to come out and participate, gather information, fellowship with survivors and donate in support of breast cancer patients and awareness,” said Cynthia Perkins event organizer.
Organizers are encouraging people to participate in the sponsorship packages ranging from $50 per person to $100 per team and up.
Sprinkle Me Pink falls in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when communities nationwide show support for breast cancer patients and survivors. The Selma community offers more than symbolic gestures, it also provides tangible assistance. Proceeds will help cover doctor visits, mammograms, treatment travel, lodging and nutritional support for patients in need.
Along with the walk, the event includes recognition of breast cancer survivors, with a portion of the program dedicated to their stories of strength and perseverance.
“We provide a portion of the event for survivors to share their testimonies and have a balloon release for the ones who gained their wings,” said Perkins.
Last year, Sprinkle Me Pink raised thousands of dollars and drew dozens of teams, proving the deep community support behind the cause.
Participants are encouraged to wear pink and comfortable walking shoes. Parking will be available at Bloch Park, and volunteers will be on hand to direct attendees and assist with team booth setup.
