Selma native appointed as 11th Circuit Court of Appeals U.S. Bankruptcy Judge

Selma native Jonathan Jordan has been appointed by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Georgia.

Jordan has been a lawyer for 33 years, 22 years with the Atlanta-based law firm of King & Spalding. After graduating from Samford University and Vanderbilt Law School, Jordan worked for the law firm of Weil Gotshal in Houston, TX.  Recently, he has been advising several Middle East clients on Saudi and UAE bankruptcy laws.

Jordan authored the NY Times best seller Brother, Rivals, Victors, as well as American Warlords, Lone Star Navy, and, as coauthor with his daughter Emily Jordan, The War Queens.  His newest book, Ike and Winston, will be released in May 2026. In addition, he writes book reviews for The Wall Street Journal.

Jordan grew up in Selma, the son of Malcolm and Sally Jordan. He attended Cedar Park Elementary, Westside Junior High, and Selma High School.  While at Selma High, he was a member of the award-winning debate team under Coach Billy Tate, a team that produced other prominent Selmians—among them US Rep. Terri Sewell, Allegra Jordan, and Mark Peterson. Jordan earned the rank of Eagle Scout from Boy Scout Troop 126 under Scoutmaster Harry Prescott and was assistant scoutmaster for his son’s troop in Marietta, GA.

Married to Galina Viktorovna Jordan, he has 3 adult children: Dr. Rachel Jordan Johnston (and husband Kyle); Emily Jordan Walden, RN (and husband Connor and baby Marshall), and Austin Jordan, who is working toward double master’s degrees in German and international studies at University of North Carolina and at Humbolt University of Berlin in Germany.  His sister, Allegra Jordan, is adjunct professor at Duke’s graduate school of engineering; his brother Andrew teaches Latin at a magnet school in the Atlanta area; and his sister Shannon Baur is a children’s author and illustrator near Austin, TX.
