SELMA – Music will take on a mission Saturday, Oct. 11, when the Pink Power Rock Fest returns to Selma’s riverfront amphitheater to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage early detection.
The Black Belt Community Foundation, in partnership with Levitt AMP Selma, will host a free concert to raise awareness of breast cancer, promote early detection and unite the community in support of those impacted.
“The concerts intend to activate an underused public space in our community,” said Lydia Chatmon, lead organizer. “We are also aiming to foster social connections and inclusion, encourage cultural and economic revitalization as well as support racial healing and narrative change.”
Featured performers will include Toia Jones, known for her appearance on “The Voice” and The Seratones, a rock/soul band from Shreveport, Louisiana.
Eventgoers are encouraged to wear pink in honor of breast cancer survivors and memory of those lost to the disease.
The event is intended to draw attention to the high number of breast cancer diagnoses in the South and showcase the importance of screening and early detection. Free and low-cost screening services, including mammograms, are offered through programs such as the Alabama Breast and Cervical Center Early Detection Program and the Joy to Life Foundation.
The Riverfront Pink Power Rock Fest is one of the final concerts in the 2025 Levitt AMP Selma season, which features 10 free, family-friendly concerts from June through October. The festival is part of Levitt AMP Selma’s series of free, outdoor concerts designed to revitalize the riverfront and bring diverse musical acts to the community.
“People can expect giveaways, audience engagement, lots of fun, great vibes and an opportunity to share space with their neighbors,” said Chatmon.
Since its launch, the Levitt AMP Selma series has brought diverse musical acts to the city’s riverfront, featuring genres such as jazz, gospel, hip-hop, zydeco, blues and rock. Each concert carries a unique theme designed to celebrate creativity and community engagement.
Gates will open at 7 p.m., at the Riverfront Amphitheater in downtown Selma, located at the corner of Water Avenue and Lawrence Street. Food trucks and vendors will be on site, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and coolers.
