SELMA – Billingsley High School ran away with a 40-0 win over Ellwood Christian School on Oct. 3 to get back to .500 on the season.
With the win, the Bears moved to 2-1 in a Class 1A, Region 4, which is crowded right near the top of the region standings as teams vie for the top four playoff spots, while Ellwood fell to 1-6 on the season and 0-4 in region play.
Billingsley senior quarterback Kyle Boice continued his string of good play with a five-touchdown night against the Eagles.
Boice shined through the air going 5-for-6 for 136 yards and three touchdowns. He found Jaylen Cutler three times for 115 yards and two of the touchdowns.
The athletic quarterback and playmaker added five carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to account for more than 200 total yards in the win.
Kaden Cotton was a solid backfield mate for Boice as he ran for 74 yards on eight carries and a touchdown.
Coming off their first win of the season last time out, 20-18 over Central High School, Hayneville, Ellwood Christian found tough sledding against a tough Billingsley defense.
Caleb Massey posted a double-digit tackle night with 11 and two coming for a loss. Trent Cobern and Mitch Richards each contributed seven tackles, and Cutler grabbed an interception to pair with his impressive offensive night.
Billingsley (3-3, 2-1) hosts Maplesville High School on Oct. 10 in the Bears’ next game.
Ellwood Christian (1-6, 0-4) now travels to Notasulga High School on the same day hoping to get back in the win column after their first win a week ago.
