SELMA – The Southside Panthers notched another local win on Thursday, Oct. 2, taking down county foe Dallas County in a hard-fought four-set win on their home court.

They split the first two sets, but a thrilling third-set victory ultimately became the turning point the Panthers needed in what became a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 26-24, 25-18) home victory against the Hornets.

In the early going, the two teams fought in what was the first of two sets in the match that went down to the wire as a two-point set.

On the heels of a back-and-forth battle, Southside garnered set point at 24-23 and capitalized putting away the first set on the next point to escape a hard-fought opening set for a 1-0 advantage in the match.

Dallas County, however, handled the early adversity well. The Hornets stormed back in the second set with a confident stretch that saw them create some separation.

They took advantage of the strong play, earning a 25-21 set win to even the match at 1-1.

That led into a third set that ultimately became the difference maker in the matchup, and it didn’t disappoint.

With the two knowing the importance of momentum in the third set of a 1-1 match, they both left it all on the line.

It created a thrilling back-and-forth battle all the way up to a 24-24 tie late. Like they did in the opening set, however, the Panthers were able to get another set point and put it away for an extra-point 26-24 set win and a 2-1 match lead.

Now with the full momentum on its side and one set away from the victory, Southside came out with a confident fourth set, building a lead and using that to their advantage to close the match with a 25-18 fourth-set victory to finish off the 3-1 win.
