SELMA – A special event will take place this weekend to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a bang in the city of Selma.
The event known as “Pink Out Selma” will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, helping raise awareness and money for breast cancer research to help those who have battled and will battle the disease.
The event, which will last from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., will take place at the George P. Evans Reception Hall as those in attendance look to “Give Cancer the Boot,” which is the official theme of the day.
“Join us for a fun-filled, empowering day as we Pink Out Selma in support of breast cancer awareness and those affected by the disease,” said Gwen Walker in the event’s official description. “This is a community celebration of strength, survival and solidarity, and we’re inviting you to be a part of it.”
The event will feature a DJ with live music throughout, a brunch and several food vendors. There will also be games and other family-fun activities throughout the day for the entire family to get involved with the impactful event.
Raffle prizes will also be given away as will swag bags with goodies.
In addition to food vendors, there will be a variety of local businesses set up throughout the event sharing their local arts, crafts, gifts and more.
Guest speakers at this year’s event will include Dr. Donitha Jones-Griffin and McLinda Gilchrist.
Following the speakers will be a special fashion show to cap off the event, highlighting breast cancer survivors hitting the run way with a fresh glamorous makeover.
“Bring your family, friends and neighbors to support a great cause and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer,” Walker said. “Together, we’ll raise awareness, honor survivors, and continue the fight to end cancer once and for all. We can’t wait to see you there. Let’s make Selma pink and powerful.”
Tickets to the event cost $28.52 for adults with funds supporting breast cancer awareness, while children 12 and under are $12.50.
With each ticket purchase, you can nominate up to two breast cancer survivors to receive a full makeover and walk in the fashion showcase.
