FAIRFIELD – The Selma offense came back to life on Friday, Sept. 26, scoring 20-plus points for the third time this season, but defensive struggles were costly in a non-region road matchup against Fairfield.
The Saints hit the road to take on the Class 4A Tigers hoping to find some momentum amid a four-game losing streak, and while the offense matched its second best output of the season, the defense had its second worst performance of the season in a 51-24 loss.
With the loss, the Saints fell to 1-5 on the season and remain at 0-3 in region play with an important matchup against Montevallo ahead back at home this Friday.
The Saints will host the Bulldogs, who are in a similar situation with a 1-4 record on the season.
Montevallo has yet to score more than 14 points in a game this season, while the Bulldogs have given up 36 points per game on the defensive side, providing the Saints with one of their best opportunities of the season to build some momentum.
After that game, Selma will hit the road for a region battle against Shelby County before returning home for the final home game of the season against Sipsey Valley to close out region play.
The Saints will finish this season with an in-county battle against Keith on the road.
