SELMA – The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department has identified many families that need assistance with a Thanksgiving meal and a few pantry items, and is asking for support with their annual Thanksgiving drive.

While the Sheriff’s Department will provide turkeys and hams, they are asking for donations of several other items to help complete Thanksgiving meals or other pantry items for those who need assistance.

The department has asked that residents ask their churches to prayerfully consider adopting several families this year as they look to fill the needs.

Food boxes will be delivered to the families on Monday, Nov. 24. Completed boxes can be dropped off at One Way Bookstore, Nov. 10-17. Alternatively, call Kathy Smith (334) 328-9250 for an appointment to drop off at Northside Baptist Church.

If you are aware of a family in need, please furnish the name and address by Nov. 6 so they can make sure they are on the delivery list.

The Sheriff’s Department also asks that you let them know the number of boxes you will be able to provide by Saturday, Nov. 1.

The items needed for each family are listed below:

• 1 box of stuffing mix
• 2 cans of cream of chicken soup
• 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup
• 2 cans of chicken broth
• 1 box of mashed potatoes
• 2 cans of sweet potatoes
• 2 cans of cranberry sauce
• 3 cans of green beans
• 3 cans of cream corn
• 2 cans of green peas (English Peas)
• 1 bag of rice
• 2 boxes of macaroni and cheese
• 2 boxes of Hamburger Helper
• 1 lb. box of spaghetti noodles
• 1 jar of spaghetti sauce
• 1 box of oatmeal
• 1 box of crackers
• 1 box cake mix
• 1 container of cake icing
• 2 cans of canned fruit
• 1 package of marshmallows
• 2 boxes of Jell-O
• 1 jar of peanut butter
• 1 jar of jelly
• 1 box of cereal
