Ward 6 saw Ashley Ervin win a seat with the city council. She gained 293 votes earning 64% of the vote beating incumbent Atkin Jemison.
“First, I give all glory to God for making this moment possible. Without His guidance and grace, none of this would be,” Ervin said.
“I am deeply grateful to the people of Ward 6 for placing your trust in me. We made history together. This victory is not just mine — it belongs to every neighbor, every voter, every volunteer, and every person who prayed, encouraged, and supported me along the way.”
Ervin has been an employee at International Paper for eight years. She is currently an equipment operator in her department.
She thanked her family, friends and community for standing with her during this journey.
“Your love and belief carried me through,” Ervin said. “This campaign was never about me — it was ‘us.’ It was about making sure that the voices of Ward 6 are heard loud and clear. It was about fighting for good change, for resources, for opportunities and for a stronger community. We showed that when we stand together, nothing can stop us.”
Ervin will take office in November and will serve a four-year term.
“I promise to serve with integrity, humility, and faith, always putting God first and our community first,” Ervin said. “We’ve celebrated, but now it’s time to get to work. With God’s help, together we will move Ward 6 — and Selma — forward.”
