Southside rolls to another dominant win over Greensboro

Eighth grade quarterback Kole Moody passed for 356 yards and four touchdown passes in the Class 3A No. 8 Panthers’ 62-6 win over Greensboro Friday night at Southside High School.

Moody completed 22 of 26 passes on the night with only one interception. With that passing performance, the Panthers also had two receivers exceed the 100-yard mark.

Derrick Surles had eight catches for 155 yards with a touchdown including a 45-yard catch. Cedrick Simmons had seven catches for 144 yards and two touchdown receptions including a long of 51 yards.

Michael Hosea also had six catches for 47 yards and one touchdown. His longest was 24 yards.

The Panthers also averaged 20 yards per carry on the ground, rushing nine times for 181 yards. Simmons had a 55-yard run while senior Kendrell Wilson had four carries for 58 yards with a touchdown. Kendell Wilson also added three carries for 56 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers. Moody also had one run for 12 yards.

The Panther blockers also racked up 14 pancake blocks as Javien Gipson, a senior, led the team with three pancakes. Seniors Jayden Acoff, Jailyn Gresham and JaQuarius Watts all had two pancakes each while fellow senior Russell Allen also had a pancake. Sophomore Jesstavion Johnson also added two pancakes.

Camarion Allen had two interceptions returned for touchdowns to lead Southside’s defensive effort while Caeden Moody and Jaderious Wilkins added interceptions. Kendall Wilson also finished with 10 tackles, five solo, including two sacks while Kendrell Wilson added five tackles with two tackles for loss including one sack.

Gresham and Allen also had six tackles in the win.

All of the Panther points came in the first half, as they led 62-0 at the break. Greensboro avoided the shutout with a touchdown near the end of the game.

The Panthers will return to action on Friday with a home game against Keith. The Bears (3-2, 1-2) fell 45-0 to Notasulga on Friday night.
