Abbeville outlasts Morgan in high-scoring affair

Abbeville Christian Academy outscored Morgan Academy 58-34 in the first ever matchup between the two longtime AISA programs.
Morgan scored on its first possession of the game to take a 6-0 lead. Alex Johnson ran a nine-yard quarterback keeper for the score, but the Senators would not lead again.
On its first play from scrimmage, the Generals scored on a 50-yard pass from Ahmond Billins to Jayden Buckhannon. The two-point conversion put Abbeville up 8-6, and the Generals would score on all of their offensive possessions on this Friday night.
Three players were unstoppable for Abbeville. Quarterback Ahmond Billins, was 8 of 12 passing for 204 yards and he ran for two touchdowns. Wide receiver Jayden Buckhannon caught three touchdown passes and had 174 yards receiving. On the ground, Riddge Crawford rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Abbeville Christian Academy had 491 yards of total offense.
The Senators had 293 yards of total offense. Quarterback Alex Johnson led the way with three quarterback Alex Johnson led the way with 132 yards rushing on 27 carries and threw two touchdown passes to Speedie Pernell.
Pernell also had a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown But it was not enough for the senators who just could not stop Abbeville.
With the loss, Morgan falls to 3-2 on the season and Abbeville improves to 5-0. After two straight road games, Morgan returns home on Friday, Sept. 26. It will be homecoming for the Senators and a rematch of last year’s first-round playoff game.
Morgan entertains Bessemer Academy in what promises to be a carnival atmosphere. The Rebels defeated the Senators 40-20 last year to end the season for Morgan.
Kickoff between Morgan and Bessmer is set for 7 p.m. and the Senators will be trying to give their student body, alumni and fans a homecoming victory.
