The new ALDI store on Dallas Avenue in Selma will open on Thursday, Oct. 16, according to an ALDI spokesperson.
The Selma Times-Journal reached out to ALDI representatives to inquire about the store’s opening date.
“We are excited to confirm that our first store in Selma is expected to open on October 16,” an ALDI spokesperson said in an emailed response Thursday morning. “As we get closer to the opening, we’ll be sure to share Grand Opening ceremony details with you. The Selma store is one of the numerous Winn-Dixie stores that are being converted to an ALDI store across the state of Alabama. Selma’s Winn-Dixie closed in March 2025, and construction has been underway at the shopping center since closing.
ALDI purchased Southeastern Grocers in March 2024 after the companies agreed on the terms in August 2023.
In a previous Selma Times-Journal, a spokesperson on behalf of ALDI’s public relations, said they operate differently from Winn-Dixie and other chains.
“Our smaller stores are stocked with only the items customers need so they can get in and out, and our award-winning exclusive brands help shoppers save up to 36% on an average grocery list without sacrificing quality,” they said in July.
The new store will be approximately 12,000 square feet of retail space, just like other ALDI stores, but it will likely not occupy the entire space of the former Winn-Dixie supermarket.
“With a smaller footprint filled with only the items we know shoppers want and need, we can operate our stores more efficiently, minimize waste and pass on savings to customers,” they said.
ALDI previously said they plan to hire between 15 and 20 full and part-time associates.
