Selma native Collins Pettaway III has announced the launch of his campaign for Selma City Council, representing Ward 3.

With deep roots in the community and a proven track record of service and servant leadership in both the public and private sectors, Pettaway is running with a heart for Selma and a clear vision for unity, accountability, and growth.

Having lived in Ward 3 since the age of 11, he understands the character and complexity of its neighborhoods. From the historic charm of the Old Town District, to the vibrant legacy of the Ice House District, the scenic strength of Riverview District, and its surrounding neighborhoods, each corner of the ward reflects the essence and soul of Selma. Pettaway is committed to honoring that sacred heritage while advocating for thoughtful progress that uplifts every resident.

“This campaign is about service, not politics,” Pettaway said. “I’ve always served Selma with heart and purpose. I’m running to bring transparency, action, and unity back to Ward 3—to answer long-standing questions, follow up on resident concerns, and help move Selma forward.”

If elected, Collins plans to:

• Prioritize open communication and follow-through on constituent inquiries.

• Advocate for policy that supports economic development and neighborhood revitalization

• Create and present policy that addresses long-standing issues.

• Preserve and promote the cultural richness of Selma’s historic district.

• Collaborate with city officials and community groups to ensure stable and united governance.

“Selma’s future depends on leadership that listens, leads with compassion, and puts community first,” said Collins. “I believe in the promise of this city, and I know that when Ward 3 is strong, Selma is stronger.”
