The following events are in the community calendar for July 1. To have your event published in the community calendar, email the details to news@selmatimesjournal.com or drop off a flier for your event in the box at the front desk at the Selma Times-Journal office at 1018 Water Avenue, Suite E.

July 2

  • Green Liberty Baptist Church, 5800 Dr. J.J. Howard Road in Marion, will hold a revival Wednesday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m. Guest pastor is the Rev. Eugene Bennett, pastor of New Rising Star Primitive Baptist Church in Orrville. Guest choirs invited for Monday night include Green Leaf Baptist, Old Oak Grove Baptist, St. James Baptist, Providence Baptist, New Rising Star Baptist, Primitive Baptist and Berean Baptist.
  • The Selma City Council will have a special called meeting on July 2 at noon in the city council chambers. Items on the agenda include: Sidewalk(s) on Washington Street – Smitherman Bros. Construction and Budget Adjustment Form.

July 4

  • The City of Valley Grande will have its fireworks show at 9 p.m. at the city ballfields.
  • The Town of Orrville will have its fireworks show at dusk on July 4.
  • The Levitt Amp Selma Music Series continues on Friday and Saturday, July 4-5, with Selma City Fest and Fireworks at Riverfront Amphitheater  Free entry. On July 4, the splash pad opens at 3 p.m. followed by the street fair at 4 p.m. The concerts begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 4, with Live in the Flesh, Shantavia Nicole and headliner Pynk Beard.

July 5

  • The Levitt Amp Selma Music Series continues on Friday and Saturday, July 4-5, with Selma City Fest and Fireworks at Riverfront Amphitheater.  The splash pad opens at 3 p.m. followed by the street fair at 4 p.m.The Stars, Stripes and Boom spectacular begins at 6 p.m. The performances before the fireworks are by Dirty D, Stephanie Luckett and J-Wonn. Then the fireworks will begin sometime after dusk.

July 6

  • New Macedonia Baptist Church, 8963 County Road 37 (Summerfield Road) in Valley Grande, will have its annual homecoming and family day on Sunday, July 6, at 1:30 p.m.. The theme is based on Matthew 5:16. The guest minister will be Dr. Tarrance L. Scott Sr. of Mt. Moriah #2 Missionary Baptist Church in Mosses. The Rev. Jonathan B. Shanks is the pastor.
  • Selma City Fest concludes on Sunday, July 6. The splash pad opens at 3 p.m. followed by the street fair at 4 p.m.

July 7

  • The City of Valley Grande will have its regular meeting on July 7 at 5 p.m.
