On July 27, 2021, between 3:30 and 4 a.m., a shooting happened in the area of Selma Square Apartments. Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford said in a July 27, 2021 story that Moorer, who was working the night shift, was on his “lunch break” when the incident took place. Moorer died on the scene. Barley was shot in the leg and hospitalized.
