The field of candidates in the Selma Mayor’s race is now officially eight candidates after George McDonald officially withdrew from the race Friday morning.

George McDonald is West Alabama Newsroom Reporter from WAKA Channel 8 in Montgomery. He informed City Clerk Ivy Harrison of his decision with a letter of his intent to withdraw from the race. The letter was marked received.

There will now only be eight candidates on the ballot for the municipal elections on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The candidates in alphabetical order are:

• Johnny E. Moss III
• James Perkins Jr. (Incumbent)
• Aaron Roper
• Jarmal J. Sanders
• Thayer H. Spencer
• Temekia Sykes
• Ronita R. Wade
