I, Michael Jackson, am announcing my candidacy for Mayor of Selma, Alabama.

Today, Selma has the lowest quality of education in Alabama.  Many of our schools are not preparing our kids for college.  The Alabama Department of Education had recently taken over the Selma School System, and now they have taken over the Dallas County School System.

Selma has the largest population drop in Alabama in the last few years.  Everybody in Selma are moving to Prattville, Millbrook, Wetumka, Montgomery, and Huntsville.  Selma was once much larger than Prattville.  Today, half of Prattville is made up of Selma residents.

Selma has the highest crime rate in the state.  Crime is so bad in Selma that if you accidentally leave something in your car at night, then you smartly wait until sunlight to get the item so that you will not get mugged.  The violent criminals and thieves are feasting on Selma.

The potholes and streets around here are tearing up everybody’s cars.  The potholes are so bad that sometimes a driver believes he is driving in the quick sand in Louisiana.  Selma looks horrible.  Litter and trash are everywhere.  Buildings are boarded up and businesses are constantly closing.  New restaurants are dodging Selma like a game of dodgeball.

Hope is gone.  Young people don’t have much to do in the summer.  During school hours, the teacher doesn’t get enough support.  Many parents want the teachers to raise their kids.

I am running to turn Selma into the next shiny city on the hill.  Selma can be a place we are all proud of.  Yes, I am making that promise because talk is cheap.  I am a Man of Action.  I have been District Attorney of the year for the whole state, President of the District Attorneys Association, the man who prosecuted the State Trooper who killed Jimmie Lee Jackson in 1965.  I have received the Profile Courage Award from A.D.C.  I have been named Young Alumnus of the Year for Centre College.  I have received the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year for Centre College.  I have been President of the Alumni Board and a member of the Board of Trustees for Centre College.  I have managed million dollar budgets and millions in grant money.  I have also been a Municipal Judge for the City of Selma.

We all love our city!  I want everybody to jump on the train of hope and vote Michael Jackson, a Mayor who will listen and continue to work hard for us.  Let’s all work together to rebuild Selma.
