The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office got a big thank you from a local organization on June 9, as WoodmenLife presented the Sheriff’s Department with a special packets for all of the deputies and workers in the department, which is about 100 employees.

These thank you packets include a number of items including a $20 gift certificate to Mark’s Mart, coupon for Dave’s Market and other coupons that can be used throughout the year.

Sheriff Mike Granthum said while the thank you might seem small, he is very thankful for the gifts.

“Today, every officer, everybody in the sheriff’s department, dispatchers, jailers, everybody in dispatch, was given gift cards to a local grocery store here,” Granthum said. “It seems like a small token to them (WoodmenLife), but to us, it’s an enormous gift. They just give the love. That’s what it is. And it’s one of their many projects they do for our community. They do tons of stuff around our community, and they stop our office every single year. We appreciate it. And you don’t get that much in law enforcement.”

Leith Wilson with WoodmenLife said this is something they do every year as one of their service projects.

“We do community projects because we’re a not for profit life insurance company. We put money back into our communities, back into our members with extra benefits,” Wilson said. “It’s kind of turned into one of our annual donations, commitments, to honor our men and women of the sheriff’s department with a gift card and just a thank you.  We appreciate what they do protecting our families throughout the year.”

Wilson said also any law enforcement or first responder who is a member of WoodmenLife also received an extra life insurance policy at no charge as a thank you.

“There is a $25,000 extra life insurance policy that is paid out for the benefit for those members that are lost in the line of duty,” Wilson said. “That’s an extra thing that WoodmenLife members don’t pay for. By the fact that they are Woodman members and serving in law enforcement, paramedics, fire and rescue, all of those we consider first responders, their families would receive that extra benefit.”
