Johnny Moss III has qualified to run for the office of the Mayor of Selma.

Moss previously announced his campaign earlier this year.

“I’m running for mayor because I believe Selma deserves leadership that works, leadership that listens, leads with integrity, and delivers real results,” Moss said. “Our city is rich in history and potential, but we haven’t always worked together effectively or maintained the trust needed to move forward as one. I’m running to change that. Like Nehemiah surveying the broken walls of Jerusalem, I’ve walked our streets and seen the areas that have been neglected for far too long. I’m running with a vision rooted in faith and community, to unify our neighborhoods, clean up our streets, restore public trust, and begin the hard but necessary work of ‘Rebuilding Selma Together.’”

Moss is currently serving his second elected term as the President of the Selma City School Board, a position that is voted on at large in the city. He is a licensed Realtor and serves on several civic and nonprofit boards.

Moss is a graduate of Selma High School and holds Bachelor of Science in finance from Tuskegee University. He later completed my Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Troy University.

He is currently the director of marketing and college relations at Wallace Community College Selma. He said he leads strategic planning efforts focused on community engagement, public image, and student recruitment.

“When I first took office, our school system was under state intervention. Today, we’re building a brand-new school, proof that with focused leadership, progress is possible,” Moss said. “These experiences have prepared me to lead effectively, build coalitions and deliver results.”

Moss is running on the platform “Clean Selma Now” that focuses on revitalizing neighborhoods, improving public safety, restoring city service and holding leadership accountable.

“Because I bring both heart and a plan, I care deeply about this city, and I have a proven ability to bring people together, tackle challenging issues, and get things done,” Moss said. “Just as Nehemiah cast a bold vision and rallied his people to rebuild, I am prepared to lead Selma with faith, focus, and follow-through. I’ve led with transparency and unity before, and I’ll do it again as your mayor.”

Moss sees Selma’s most significant challenges as ineffective coordination of city services, under-enforcement of basic ordinances, neighborhood safety concerns and aging infrastructure. He plans focus on three key priorities:

  • Unified Leadership – Build trust, transparency, and collaboration between city government, neighborhoods, and stakeholders.
  • Public Safety & Opportunity – Reform public safety leadership, enforce ordinances, and create new pathways for youth employment and workforce development.
  • Blight Removal & Neighborhood Renewal – Launch a Clean Selma Now initiative to remove blight, restore pride, and invest in revitalized public spaces.

“We can no longer afford to manage decline. It’s time to rebuild with clarity, accountability, and unity,” Moss said. “’Rebuilding Selma Together’ starts by listening to our citizens, implementing sound policies, and restoring a sense of shared purpose.

“I’m not a career politician, I’m a father, husband, licensed Realtor, and servant leader who believes in Selma’s future. I’ve proudly served on multiple civic boards and currently lead the Selma City School Board in my second term of office. I know how to navigate tough decisions and unite people around a shared vision. The story of Nehemiah reminds us that rebuilding requires both burden and boldness. If you’re ready for change rooted in values, results, and genuine leadership, I ask for your support and your vote.”
