The SaveOurselves Movement for Justice and Democracy is sponsoring a “No Kings” rally in Selma on Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the foot of the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge at the intersection of Broad Street and Water Avenue.
SOS and other Alabama organizations organized the rally as part of more than 1,500 “No Kings Day” events taking place in every state in the nation.
“People of all ages are encouraged to come to Selma for Saturday’s Rally,” according to a press release from retired State Sen. Hank Sanders and John Zippert. “Bring your sign and your voice and stand up and stand together for democracy at this most critical time.”
At Selma’s “No Kings Rally” this Saturday, there will be a range of speakers from across Alabama addressing urgent issues including preventing cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and other vital programs; protecting lifesaving medical research being eliminated in Alabama and other states; safeguarding voting rights being gutted across the nation; protecting education – from pre-K through university; reducing gun violence; countering unlawful attacks on legal immigrants; and protecting American democracy, which is under enormous and widespread attacks.
The press release also stated that the rally will also include music, community fellowship and on-site assistance for those needing wheelchair or accessibility support.
